Vacuum Lines
Each researcher working on the speciation of heterogeneous catalysts has their own custom built vacuum line with a Edwards rotary RV-3 pump and a oil-diffusion pump. The combination of these two pumps on a vacuum line with well greased glass stopcocks will give a vacuum down to 10-6 torr.
Glassblowing
In addition to being a major user of the Chemistry Department's glassblowing shop, the Scott Lab has a small natural gas/oxygen torch for repair of glass reactors and sealing off air sensitive compounds under glass (for example, welding breakseals onto a reactor or sealing an XAS sample).
