My
research interests are in the areas of mass transfer and separation
processes. Recent research has centered on problems dealing with
acid gas absorption using aqueous amine solvents. We have developed
instrumentation and apparatus to measure the fundamental physicochemical
properties that are required to understand and predict the combined
diffusion and chemical reaction phenomena that occur in these
systems. These properties include gas solubilities, diffusion
coefficients, and chemical kinetics. My students and I have developed
sophisticated models for various gas removal/liquid reactant situations
which use the properties to predict mass transfer rates.
