My
research focuses on methods that utilize some type of dynamic
process model as a key part of the control algorithm. Thus the
emphasis is on methods that require significantly more insight
into how the process operates rather than on purely mathematical
developments. Process modeling information often is available
from theoretical knowledge (first principles), from physical insight,
or from on-line operating data. In the last case, reduction to
a useful mathematical form (so-called process identification)
is required.
